how can i php include this?

similar to facebook i want logged in members profile to be an include on index, if member is logged out i want it to php include from a different page. how can i do this? my example that won't work is below

If the idea is to store the text to be output in the $toplinks variable, you could do:

    include('loggedin.php');
} else {
    include('loggedout.php');
}

okay, i am having a hard time, what you gave me works! but now i want to add my profile page for the logged in include. i keep getting these warnings. the file is there... but won't display. any thoughts? do you want my code?

File paths are not query strings being parsed by a webserver, so unless your file name actually ends in a question mark, followed by 'id', followed by an equal sign, followed by the number 1, those paths don't make sense.

What do you mean the "url is ..." ? If you're [man]include[/man]'ing a file on the local file system, there is no "URL" because there is no webserver involved at all - you're just reading in a file from the hard drive and executing its contents as PHP code.

If that script expects some external data, either wrap its code in function(s) that you can call (passing the data as parameters), or use some sort of global variable sharing (e.g. variables defined in the scope of the including script will be available in the included script). Note that the better solution would be the former, as the latter is generally frowned upon.
