date and time calc

Hello,

I need to calculate var with date and time.

Something like:

$num_of_days = "34 days and 12:20 hours";
$var1 = 100;
$var2 = 200;
$var3 = ($var1+$var2)/$num_of_days

how can I do this?

One way of many:

$numDays = substr($num_of_days, 0, strpos($num_of_days, ' '));
$var3 = ($var + $var2) / $numDays;

hi thanks for your answer but this is ignoring the time element from the $num_of_days
in other words if $num_of_dates = "30 days and 12:00 hours " it should calculate it as 30.5 days

Depending on how consistently the string is structured, you may need to use regular expressions or else (or also?) [man]explode/man on the spaces to get the numbers of interest, then do the required basic math, e.g. divide the minutes by 60, add that to the hours, then divide that by 24 to get the fractional part to add to the number of days. Just take it step by step, and when you run into a step you can't figure out how to do, let us know. 🙂
