[RESOLVED] Php Remove X Characters

Is there a simple php code to remove either the first or last 'x' characters of a text file? Example:

test.txt Contents:
123456789

php code to remove last (3) characters

test.txt Contents:
123456

Can this be done??

If you had a file with 1500 characters,
And a file with 700 characters,
What could I use to take either the first 100 characters or the last 100 characters out of the file?

Examples:

File1.txt Contains:

111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
1111111111111111111111111111111111111111

And...
File2.txt Contains:

234987264398276938728763459872469834334537659387569387569387
562399548031785601873232875610653865065869320650265065198653
3829767479398374358761098634954657486656

How could I take the last 100 characters of these two files? ( If you didn't know what they contained, all you know is that they have over 100 characters in them, it could be 400 characters, 1000, etc. And you don't know if they contain letters or numbers or both?)

I really need help, I know this must be semi-simple

If you aren't here to learn, then post a job advertisement in the Available positions forum. Otherwise, job solicitations are not allowed anywhere else on the board.

Although really what you're asking is indeed rather simple. Simply use [man]file_get_contents/man to read the file's contents as a string into a variable, and then use [man]substr/man to only keep the part of that string that you want.
