Bugtracker ... or pile of papers?

So, do you have a bug list? What do you use for project planning, issue reporting and resolution?

I installed MantisBT a while back, but didn't use it much. I realized the other day that I've not been here longer than anyone except the owner and the 2 VP's ... (which is dang scary as I'm not quite up to a year anniversary yet) ... and I might need a more formal approach to handling things (plus, I want my desk to look neater ... and I'd hate to lose the 'new feature' notes from the last Big Meeting(tm) under a pile of hastily scrawled function parameters and reminders. :eek:

So, now MantisBT is my good friend 😃

it's really important on a team or on a large project. personally, however... 😃

I work by myself, so it's basically a combination of a paper list + fixing everything as soon as I notice it

My company uses Lighthouse.

Tools that I have considered and may use for my own projects include Launchpad, Bitbucket and Github. Actually, my company does use Github, but for Git repository storage only.

Hmm, agreed; I'm kind of on a "team", although I'm only one of two people here who've even bothered to sign up on the bugtracker (mostly because 'IT' is one programmer and one guy who does everything else related to anything that runs on electricity - everyone else is "graphic design/production", or sales/marketing).

I guess it'd be nice if I could work so fast as to fix everything as soon as someone notices it. Of course, I'm tracking feature requests now, too; so there are some 'bugs' that take days/weeks to 'fix' ... especially since 'marketing' can't find time to craft their own emails ....

well, maybe not "as soon" as I notice it, but I try not to end the day without figuring it out. 🙂 Not always possible...

I have the amazing luck of being the web master, developer, administrator, the IT person, the marketing person, and eletronic maintenance person... I have to fix electronics I've never even seen before lol, so generally speaking I work from a pile of papers. The pile includes far more than "bugs" on the site, but also anything that needs done, such as make an ad for this paper, update the website for the ever changing data it represents (even tho I purposely built a stupid easy administration section so anyone could do it), fix the 15yr old TV, keep the 13yr old servers running... etc etc...

I would like to learn to use bug tracking for at least my web projects but I just haven't gotten around to it. I do however use Bazaar to keep track of changes and the order of modifications.

I've not yet eliminated all paper, and, truth, if me and the other guy were the same person (we only have one server that old, the rest are about 6-7 years old I think), we would DEFINITELY have a piled desk and some overwork issues.

I'll probably never have everyone running to their browser whenever they want to give me an assignment or report an issue ... but I can dream, can't I?
