[RESOLVED] user sessions

I am trying to create a site that requires visitors to login to their user accounts for full functionality, similar to way this site does. I have created the login functions and user registration functions, but I'm trying to create the function the maintains the user's login session no matter what page on the site they go to. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

What do you mean by "maintains the user's login session" ? I wouldn't think you need to do anything to maintain the session; if the session ID (are we talking about a PHP session or "session" in the broad sense?) is propagated via a cookie, then it's the browser's job to "maintain" it by passing the cookie along with every request.

there's nothing you should have to do there other than call session_start on every page of the site.

Take a look at [man]session_start[/man]. You can call this function in every page that gives a hoot about the user's session. Once you've called it, you should be able to read and write to the superglobal variable $SESSION. When a user logs in, you can store their user id in $SESSION['user_id'] and base your page's behavior on the value found there.

For examle this site requires you to login at the top-right corner before you are aloud to create or reply to any threads. Once logged in, the username and password fields are replaced by my userID and last login info on every page I go to from that point on.
