How would i code the php loop

I want to list my database entries sorted by Category and limited to 5 entries per line. I am very bad at coding so how would i could this to get this effect

Category 1

item1	item2	item3	item4	item5

item6	item7

Category 2

item1	item2 	item3

Category 3

item1	item2	item3	item4	item5

• Get the total number of categories

• Run through a loop iterating through your categories and print the current category's name

• Get the total number of items for that particular category

• Run through a loop iterating through your items and print the item's name

• Increment a counter as you go through the loop

• Once the counter reaches 5, reset the counter and go to the next line (<br /> or whatever the context may be)

... Or were you perhaps expecting "help with writing" to mean "help with copying-and-pasting what someone else writes for me" ?
