reading value of sql count

Hi

I have a variable which is set to "Select Count(*) from tablename"

Is there a php function which I can use to display the value returned, because obviously using the mysql_num_rows() is returning 1.

You'd retrieve it the same way you'd retrieve data from any other result set.

You're getting one row, after all; as it happens, that row has one field containing the count.

To make it easier to predict what that field is called, you may want to give it a name:
[font=monospace]Select Count(*) As rowcount From tablename[/font]
