Fatal error: Call to undefined function cleanSameArg2()

Hi everyone .. i am having a major issue with the "Search" field on a website I am putting together, can someone please tell me what is wrong in the following :-

Fatal error: Call to undefined function cleanSameArg2() in /includes/modules/sideboxes/viwolf/search_categories.php on line 39

In this file starting at line 39 is the following :-

echo '<a href="'.cleanSameArg2('min_price','max_price').'&min_price='.floor($priceListArray[$totalNum*$i/$priceListRowNum]).'&max_price='.floor($priceListArray[$totalNum*($i+1)/$priceListRowNum-1]).'">';
echo $currencies->display_price($priceListArray[$totalNum*$i/$priceListRowNum],zen_get_tax_rate($_GET['products_tax_class_id'])).' - '.$currencies->display_price($priceListArray[$totalNum*($i+1)/$priceListRowNum-1],zen_get_tax_rate($_GET['products_tax_class_id']));

Can anyone explain what is the error or what is missing please ???

It is driving me crazy as the web guys cant work it out either !!

Hi,
I know you are new but please use php tags when showing code (it's the button with PHP on it), as this will colour code and highlight any problems straight away. In this case the code shows us you calling the cleanSameArg2 function but not where that function is. Clearly the programme can't find it either which is why it's complaining the function is undefined.

To further elaborate, PHP thinks that cleanSameArg is a PHP function call because of the way the string is concatenated; if cleanSameArg is supposed to be, for example a Javascript function, it should be within the context of the quoted string.

If indeed "cleanSameArg" is a PHP function, you'll need to make sure the function is defined in the same file that's calling it with its declaration and containing file context syntactically correct, or in another syntactically correct file that's being called by either require() or include().

So where would I find the fix for the error .. would it be on the same page ? .. or somewhere
else on the site ?

I had some web people update the template etc and since then hasnt worked. Anytime you
click on the search field for anything it will go and bring up this error on another page... so I
guess its looking for all the information in perhaps the other parts of the site away from this
new templates directories.

Sure is a confusing one .. to me anyway. I have asked them to fix it but they are practically
ignoring me now using the line that it will take a long time to fix it and we will have to charge
you.

REALLY NICE considering they didnt get it right in the upgrade in the first place !!..

Hope someone can point me in the right direction ..

No problem about the tags, Brad fixed it anyway 😉, it's just really useful when concatenating. Dalecosp gave a really good answer about it depending on whether it's a PHP or Javascript function. Either way it can be either in the page or in another. If it's not in the page look for the require() or include() functions dalcosp mentioned and/or <script> tags which Javascript uses.

If there's lots of files to search through use your IDE/text editor to try and find the function first, that way you'll be able to tell what file it needs to find.

Well the "fix" would be in the form of a function definition for this 'cleanSameArg2' user-defined function. Where that function definition occurs (or should occur) is completely up to the application.

Perhaps you should restore the modified files from backup? Furthermore, if you can compare the current files to their "last known good" revisions, you should be able to spot the change that either removed the cleanSameArg2() function definition or otherwise prevented 'search_categories.php' from include/require'ing that bit of code.

Thanks all for the comments...

Problem is that as "they" changed the overall format from Zen Cart to Presta (or visa-versa)
and there hasnt really been a suitable back-up made as such.

Thats why I was saying that I feel I should just remove the search field from all pages 🙁

Anyway I will continue going through it over the weekend and see what happens. Worst
case scenario I may have to start up a fresh shop front and painfully transfer again.

Which is it? I'm guessing you're right, they did change it to Presta?

A little googling shows that "cleanSameArg2" is a (PHP) function defined by the Zen Cart ... at least it was in the version released 2005/12/28.

I've they've changed the site to Presta, it would seem a no-brainer that "cleanSameArg2" doesn't exist anymore. However, "they" neglected to change your code.

However, the filename in which the error occurs (search_categories.php) and the path to get there look standard for a Zen Cart installation of that vintage. So maybe it's still Zen?

Unfortunately, I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty hard for us to debug for ya here on the forums --- unless you happen across someone who's had a similar issue with the exact same packages... 🙁
