Thermal heat maps

Has anyone created these using PHP/GD or maybe just some fancy CSS?

I basically have a "table" with five rows and 19 columns of temperature readings

I'd like to create an alpha'd heatmap of the data to layover a webpage display

I did a bunch of looking around and the bulk of what I've found all relates to "click traffic" heat maps.

Any pointers or ideas would be great =)
