Getting values from a string.

Currently I'm using this to loop though an array :

foreach ($matches[0] as $key => $value) {
echo $value . "<br><br>";
}

The resulting $value contains a string of data that is comma separated.

I need to pull 2 specific pieces of this data out, but they could appear anywhere in this comma separated string. They are not always in the same position, so I don't think explode would help me.

However they always start as 98= and 54=
What follows can change, may be within quotes or not and they could appear in the order of 98= then 54= or 54= then 98=

Any ideas how I would get this ??

You haven't given remotely enough information for a full solution (even if one were to be forthcoming), but [man]preg_match[/man] is good at finding parts of strings based on some pattern. For convenience you might want to search for the two things separately (so that it doesn't matter what order they appear in).

The string is basically :

10=ID,4=Model,54=1234567890,8=Location,98=45,5=Back
ETC, etc

I need to have 98= & 54= linked in someway to allow me to do an if on 98, then use 54 !

As the values in both of these can change then I don't know how to match as they could be anything.

However I've just realized 54 and 98 will always be a fixed number of characters.
Does that help ?

98 = 2 characters - always numbers
54 = 17 characters - mix letters, numbers and other chars.

Other functions you might want to look at are [man]explode[/man] (for turning a comma-separated string into an array) and [man]substr[/man] (to see if a string starts with a certain sequence of characters).

It wouldn't make much sense to start a new thread being as you have the experts attention.

As weed stated if your looking for parts of a string preg_match is perfect for this. I'm learning PHP too so I know how frustrating it can be when you don't know how to communicate what you want to achieve.

I find giving the full example data is very helpful and then below give an example of our expected output, whether dynamic or not.

I would be interested to see the outcome of this thread..... 🙂
