[RESOLVED] Problem with NOW() syntax in SQL query

I am having a problem with syntax i think, can someone give me some enlightenment, I thought something was wrong with the "NOW()" code, but now i am not sure.

            $sql = "INSERT INTO 
                        topics(topic_subject, 
                               topic_date, 
                               topic_cat, 
                               topic_by) 
                   VALUES('" . mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['topic_subject']) . "', 
                               'NOW()', 
                               '" . mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['topic_cat']) . "', 
                               " . $_SESSION['user_id'] . "')";

is there something wrong with the syntax?
