how to sell mp3s from my site

I am looking at selling mp3s from my website. Would it be better to purchase a PHP application that I can install onto my web site or would it be better to go for a third party site where you upload files to them. I am looking at http://www.withinweb.com/phpeseller/ as a possible application but am not sure if it is the best approach.

Well at that price I'd say buy it.

Other than that then it would probably be best to use one of the open source e-commerce platforms like Magento or Zen Cart. Thing with those is the learning curve needed to configure it to your needs.

Before you do buy it have a good search for any comments and issues that others have had with it; if it is bad then there will probably be adverse posts and tweets out there.

To be honest I am not a great fan of open source products as I think that they tend to develop it odd directions.

I hope you will let us know how it goes? Sounds to me like the feature set looks pretty appropriate for what you're trying to do.

I worked on a project that used osCommerce and sold e-books. Some major problems:
1) osCommerce tries to be all things to all people -- tax and shipping zones, etc. Internationalization.
2) osCommerce is VERY poorly constructed for templating or redesign of your website's appearance -- or at least it was.
3) the module we installed to sell digital content had a major flaw -- the PHP proxy page that allowed one to download digital files did not actually verify that a user was logged or that they had purchased the file first. I think it might have been an attempt at a back door.
