Is this possible to do with PHP?

I'm customizing a small PHP news/blog script (it's called FanUpdate); I want to create a script that fits my needs and usability because WordPress has been a pain and driving me up the wall. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to PHP... I can alter coding but I have a hard time actually coding from scratch.

One thing I'm trying to do is on the contact form on my blog, I would like the email to show on my dashboard (kind of like comments would), so I can have everything easily accessible and don't have to check my email constantly. Can this be done in PHP? If so, how would I go about doing it?

I'm not asking anyone to write the whole script for me, I just need help getting my foot in the right direction; I'm not sure how to start it.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking. Do you want the emails from a form submission to be listed on the dashboard?

sorry - a little more clarification: do you want to display emails (i.e., php is actually checking your email account for you), or the form submission (i.e., php is displaying your messages instead of emailing them to you)?

If possible, both. See who the sender is and their message. I would like to be able to reply too but maybe that's asking for too much... I should be able to implement the original contact form inside the dashboard, right?

Wouldn't it be simpler to just have the form send the message to you via email and then you can easily respond from there?

Theoretically, yes but I'm always in my dashboard anyways, it'd be more convenient for me if everything was already there, if you get what I mean? I'm always getting comments I have to approve or reply back to, always writing some kind of entry, or I'm updating my webpage in general.

Plus for whatever reason, some important emails get into spam when they shouldn't be there and I never see them. At least this way, I can see every email that's sent through the contact form on my blog.

In addition to sending yourself an email (or in lieu of) put the necessary information into a table in your database, then just recall those rows to display them in your dashboard.

If you wanted to use PHP to retrieve email from your inbox, that's possible as well, but more complicated. Have a look at the imap_* functions.
