Web host changing DC locations --- 4 hour downtime?

One of the hosts we use has announced they'll be moving from one DC to another in California.

Our "dedicated server" will be physically moved to the new DC. Downtime is expected to be 4 hours.

Our two flagship-branded sites are on the box. Plus, it serves the advertising for all our other sites....

I know what I'm going to do for the next couple weeks, anyway. But one of them can't be migrated
anywhere else.

Any of you all ever had a planned outage of four hours or more?

How did you deal with it?

First step was always to unplug the phones and set up an out-of-office auto-responder in Outlook...

Downtime is expected to be 4 hours.

You could hope the downtime is after midnight... But, if they're worth their weight in salt - they'll get in done in 4.. Not much else you can do.

My DC merged with another... We get all sorts of notices of potential outages as they upgrade the older equipment... (knocks on wood) haven't been down yet...

Hopefully the server and its backups won't be traveling in the same truck. An accident or fire could prove... problematic. 🙂

We keep remote backups. Just don't see "4 hours downtime" as something that I consider a selling point. "Mission Critical" for a business no bigger than ours is, apparently, a contradiction in terms.

Of course, I don't feel that way!

Lol, I suppose not. But it is the world wide web, right? We've really been hoping to make it big in Asia as well as the rest of the world. There's no midnight for a web-server 😃

I'll tell you what I'm really worried about, though, in [thread=10385789]another post[/thread].
