Showing Foreign Charaters

Hi Guys

I am developing a site that needs to be in 3 different languages

English
Italian
Spanish

I have the following at the top of the pages

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

When either Italian or Spanish is selected, some of the characters are not displayed correctly, they show as a &#65533;

The languages are selected by clicking a flag that the displays content from the relevant include file that contains a list of defines.

Any ideas where I am going wrong?

It sounds like the text you're trying to display isn't encoded in UTF-8. What you need to do now is work out how it is encoded. You might be lucky and find that [man]utf8_encode[/man] is enough, or [man]iconv[/man], but it would be less work to just properly encode the source material.

Also make sure the file itself is encoded in UTF-8. I've set my IDE to encode in UTF-8 by default for this reason.
