select from database

I don't know how to ask this question so I can't do a search. Perhaps someone could help me. I have the following:

 SELECT * FROM categories WHERE Category = 'LS' OR Category = 'SS'  etc...

We are going to change the SS category to include numbers in the database. It will now be like this: SS-1, SS-2, SS-3. My question is, how can I have the Category = 'SS-' where the represents any number following the "SS-" ?

Try something like:

SELECT * FROM categories WHERE Category LIKE 'SS-%'

If you need to perform searches on variations similar to your initial query, you could add parts like this to it:

OR Category LIKE 'LS-%'

If that becomes unwieldy with too many variations, you could always drop to using a regular expression search, but that might be overkill for now...
