[RESOLVED] Mark OTHER USERS threads resolved ...

With the new board, page loads seem to take longer than they ever did on vB3.

I'm think we need a "Mark Resolved" button that some of us can use on newbie's posts ;-)

I noticed the slowness too -- wondered if it was because I have a hosts file blocking a bazillion ad-related sites? Load seems faster on my Ubuntu desktop than my Win 7 desktop.

Sneakyimp, not sure why. I've seen the codebase for vB4 and run it on FreeBSD and it seems fast, but the DB there is much smaller, with a userbase < 20K and less than 100K posts. Knowing a few things about a lot of hosting situations, I'd guess that the DB here's a lot larger and we're running on an older Linux with MySQL < 5.5 ... just a guess, though.

Ha I got the same things this weekend, probably reporting the same post, it asked me to wait 63 seconds because the board requires 60 seconds. LOL

I meant to say that the load time of this site depends on which client I use. On my windows 7 machine with firefox, it takes an age to load. On my Ubuntu workstation with Firefox, it loads very quickly. I was trying to figure out why it's so slow on my Win 7 machine and had gotten as far as wondering about whether my hosts files are different but that's about it. I can't imagine it has anything to do with Ubuntu Firefox being different than Win 7 Firefox. It occurred to me that the slowness might be related to some javascript that fails to run because I block ad sites or something.

@: My only explanation is that we added intelligently stupid AI to the forums... intelligent in that it knew that there were a bunch of new users registering and spewing a bunch of spam/advertising posts, but stupid in that it decided the course of action was to predict that the regulars would soon be reporting these posts, thus we're being penalized for not waiting 60 seconds until after the report we're going to make in the future.

(These are the types of thoughts that go through my head when I'm "all jacked up on Mountain Dew!" and waiting for regression tests to complete and show me how much I failed.)
