Joining a team

Hello, I would like to ask about joining a team. I have been given a task which I need to complete, and they already have A LOT of code.

Now I am not really very good at php, know almost nothing about jQuery and very little about CSS. Since all that it is very hard for me to understand the code and modify it to complete the task.
It was easier when I was learning php at home as I knew what is what, if you know what I mean.

What would you suggest me?

Well...they do know that I am a beginner here, but my coworker is really busy and I dont want to bother them..

Pick one:

Get help.
Hire someone else to do the work for you, then steal their work and pass it off as your own. (immoral, possibly illegal)
Leave the team (since you seem to be telling us that you're under-qualified to be on it).

I'm not sure what else it is we're supposed to be suggesting...

It'll be more bother if work needs redone because you were afraid to communicate. And if that's the case the team will end up disliking you for pushing dates back and causing more headaches. So trust me, its better to communicate any and all problems you can't resolve than to keep quiet so as not "to bother them".

Well I will not just give up and leave team thats for sure...I will just start learning, talk to them and come up with the best, I think that would be the ebst decision.

I assume there's a team leader? Take that person aside and tell them your concerns. If there isn't a team leader there must be someone the team reports to, or the person who put you on the team. Talk to that person. Expressing your concerns now will be better than in the future and/or if you hide them.

Well, I think I will talk to them tommorow and keep learning, and see how it goes 🙂
