How to set the cookie so it works thru the whole site, all directories?

this is what i am using and it seems to work fine within it's own directory, but in other directories, not so much... how can i make this cookie work everywhere on my website? thanks!

path
The path on the server in which the cookie will be available on. If set to '/', the cookie will be available within the entire domain. If set to '/foo/', the cookie will only be available within the /foo/ directory and all sub-directories such as /foo/bar/ of domain. The default value is the current directory that the cookie is being set in.

Another (similarly overlooked) topic to consider is that when the text Weedpacket quoted says "domain", it means whatever domain for which the cookie was set. The manual explains what the default is for that value, but note that "mysite.com" and "www.mysite.com" are not the same.

So, if a user initially typed in "mysite.com/page1" and you later redirected them to "www.mysite.com/page2", for example, by default any cookies set on the former page load will not be sent for the latter.

This problem once drove me totally, completely nuts. To avoid the problem, you should canonicalize your urls so that users always get sent to the same exact representation of your domain consistently. I.e, if they request "example.com", you redirect them to "www.example.com" or vice-versa, depending on which version of the url you prefer. This will help with the cookie issue and will also help with search engine rankings.
