I know you normally add plugin scripts into a dedicated folder (called plugins to keep things simple) and you will read all files in this folder to include them in your webpage (or am I wrong?)

My question is how do you write a page to account for extra plugins etc?

Well that depends on how the architecture of the application that your plugins plug in to and the user design of its plugin interface.
