I have a include on my page which reads a XML feed and displays the weather, sometimes my feed fails due to the feeder server being a little unreliable.

how can I catch the errors so my page does not show a lot of errors when the feed does fail?

Maybe display "Refresh page to display latest weather."

Try and read the feed (which, depending on your code and your configuration, may involve suppressing error messages).
If the read fails, do something else (which may involve writing something to fall back on (which may be based on what is available if and when the read does succeed).)

how do I determine if the feed has failed?

Another approach might be to to use AJAX on the client side to populate the relevant part of the page from the feed.

You'll know that when you don't get the information from it that you expected.
