Modify existing classes for use in a new project?

Theory discussion for the OO-impaired ...

When starting a new project that has "similar" or "same" objects as another project, do you modify your classes or import them from the old project en toto?

IOW, if your "widgets" have a PaintMePurple() function in one project, but in this project purple's not gonna happen, do you eliminate the PaintMePurple code from the class or just leave it in there?

Why or why not?

It sounds like the classes involves should be pulled out into a library to be imported into the various projects which then either use the classes as-is, or perhaps inherit from them as needed.

I kind of wondered about that. A design issue ... as in, perhaps the classes became too specialized in the previous application ...
