MySQL Select WHERE issue...

So I have a weird issue,

I am trying to match the title of one table against the title of another table...

using

WHERE TITLE = '$title'

and my results are coming up empty.

when I use

WHERE TITLE LIKE '%$title%'

it turns up results, but it's too imprecise.

The titles of each table match exactly, as far as I can tell... but I may be wrong about this... the only thing I can think is maybe one table has extra spaces (but looking for these, I couldn't find this to be the case)

so I am really confused why the title match isn't working...

can anyone suggest a precise way to select records from one table in another based on title... that might help with whatever may be going on here?

Use the wildcard match and print out the results using [man]var_dump/man. Then, do the same with $title. That should tell you why a strict equality isn't matching anything.
