IS IE *officially* the hindmost browser now?

Stats are hard to figure, but I just got IE 11 installed with yesterday's patches, and it now has "Inspect Element" in the context menu and "DOM Explorer" which opens in a bottom frame (instead of a separate window-ish thingy like the IE10 debugger).

Now if they just change their icon to a small animal or something, they'll have admitted defeat? 😃

The debugger has been able to open within the window as well as separate, just like the debugger in Chrome or Firefox for sometime. This is not new, maybe they simply switched the default to be in window. But similarly you can open them all with F12. Also, they had a Select Element tool, much like the magnifying glass in chrome (I assume firefox has something like that?).

I'm not saying IE is great, I think it should wither and die. I'm just saying, only one small part of this is new. 🙂

The Select Element tool was, as far as I knew, not in the context menu, though; I always accessed it after the debugger was opened. Of course, it could be that I just didn't have it configured properly; another MS-ism ... obscure controls (the interesting ones, anyway...)

Yeah the new debugger is a welcome change but it can't compete with Firebug in the slightest. Also the resolution tool doesn't really do what it's supposed to. I find Firefox's responsive design view to be the benchmark of resolution testing. I can't seem to find a similar feature in Chrome though I am sure it's there, I just haven't looked hard enough (nor cared enough).

Are you referring to its resizing of the page/elements for high-res screens?

I'm kinda mixed on that. It could be perceived as annoying.

Yes, and that you have to explicitly tell it what size monitor you're using. I like that you can customize that, it's kind of neat, but at least default to what I currently have. And then when I was finished I could not figure out how to close it. I removed all the values I had, pressed escape (how you exit Firefox's responsive design view), pressed enter, etc. but to no avail. I just closed the debugger window. That seems excessive. If there is another way to cancel it, it's not obvious (at least to me).

It's better. But it's no Firebug.

So you're talking about IE?

I stay away from it ... as far as I can. Once something's developed, I look to make sure it's not broken in IE. That's about it. I'll never even open the debugger as long as my JS doesn't break over there....
