WE have an in house built help desk tool that I am currently re-working to run on later versions of PHP. One complaint we have always heard is the way it digests incoming email. The original coder stripped the HTML tags (which most mail is now). The result was that the SQL stored message bodies are totally devoid of formatting. So the help tickets are quite unreadable. Does anyone have any ideas where I may start looking for methods of improvement? I think he used a perl module to strip the tags.
Take a look at a some html mail. I'd guess they use p for paragraphs. Or br for line breaks. You could opt to strip all other tags. Or possibly also retain em, hN, header etc.
