I don't really know for sure. We do have one guy working from TN, though he moved here for about a year when he started. So I guess it's not impossible? Might require you to impress the decision-makers at least a bit more than any local applicants. Of course, if they can pay you MO wages instead of greater NYC wages, that might be in your favor. 
Couldn't everyone use "mo' wages"?
