Page not showing database updated info but database is updated

I have a standard form that displays users current data from a mysql database once logged in(code obtained from the internet). Users can then edit their data then submit it to page called editform.php that does the update. All works well except that the page does not display the updated info. Users have to first logout and login again to see the updated info. even refreshing the page does not show the new info. Please tell me where the problem is as i am new to php.

On which page is the data shown to the user?

Do some debugging. Using a debugger or by inserting echo statements in your code, trace the flow of control when the user is redirected to test.php. For example, is the $fgmembersite->CheckLogin() test somehow failing?

Also, instead of writing:

header("Location: test.php");

write:

header("Location: http://example.com/test.php");
exit;

replacing "example.com" with your domain name.

i have being trying different options for 2 days now to no avail. i am starting to think that its got to do with the sessions.

I'm not asking you to try new "options". I'm asking you to debug your code, i.e., to figure out what it is really doing. Given what you have shown, I am unable to diagnose the problem. The code that you posted is far too incomplete.

Does the code work for you before you made any changes to it?

If it does, what changes did you make?

If it doesn't, then you need to fix that. Doing this goes back to my post #4, i.e., you need to find out what's actually happening and trace the problem to some part of the code.

The code works perfectly as it it meant as a login script with sessions. I only added a form that echos the users info i.e name,email and address. The user can then edit their info and submit. Once they click submit the database gets updated perfectly, i checked that with phpmyadmin. The only problem is that with the redirect back to the form the old data still shows. even if you refresh the browser a few times the form does not show the updated info. Only once the user logs out and logs in again they can see the amended info.How do i get it to show the updated info without logging out.

Here's a guess: you stored the user's info in the session. When you show the user info to the user, you retrieved it from the session. However, after updating the database, you did not update the session, hence the old user info continued to be shown to the user. When the user logged out and logged in again, a new session was created with the updated user info, therefore the user could see the amended user info.

Okay, in the code you showed, you wrote:

Did you implement the UserFullName method yourself? Show its implementation.

in the fg_membersite.php i added the function

function UserFullName()
{
return isset($SESSION['name_of_user'])?$SESSION['name_of_user']:'';
}

and then fetched the result like this

$_SESSION['name_of_user'] = $row['name'];

and in the form i included it like this

value="<?= $fgmembersite->UserFullName() ?>">

forgive me if my termanology is not correct but as i said im still new to this.

Personally, I would rather avoid and even disable short tags and just write:

value="<?php echo $fgmembersite->UserFullName() ?>"

As of php 5.4 <?= is always available, even with short tags disabled. 🙂

it still showing the old data. i even tried a different browser to check if it is a caching issue, but its not.

That change is purely stylistic. You need to update the data in the session.
