problems installing

Hi all,

I am trying to use a book called PHP6 (wrox). I do not want to use it my local computer so I got a sub domain. I posted a file to test if things work. The file is called test.php and the contents are as follows:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>My first HTML document</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>

echo “ < p > If you see this then we did it right! < /p > ”;
? >
</BODY>
</HTML>

The code looks good to me. Why is it not working?

I don't know if this is actually a problem since I have never done otherwise, but "< ?php" should be "<?php" and "? >" should be "?>". Furthermore, you are using the wrong quotes for the PHP string, i.e., it should be double quotes (or single quotes), not special quote characters of the variety that may be inserted using a word processor.

Next time, do not just ask "why is it not working?" Tell us how does it not work.

Thanks for this. I made the changes and still when I upload it the page that shows is the standard error page to just host.

It is possible that you forgot to upload the file to the correct location on the webserver.
