from csv to calc with 4000 lines ....

hello dear experts-experts,

i have a data-set that looks like the following line

'id_number', 'first_name': 'Bill', 'last_name': 'McDonald', 'email': '[e-mail]'

at the moment all is in a txt-file

i have 4000 lines of that and want to store it into a calc-sheet.

question: can i save this as a csv-dataset - and afterwards open it in calc?

what else needs to be done?

In a csv file, you put the headers on line 1, as in

id,first name,last name,email

and then comes the data, as in

,Bill, McDonald,[e-mail]

... which mean you will have to create a new file containing the first line as suggested while stripping everything but the actual data from each subsequent line.

I don't fully understand your data set's format. It looks like comma-separated key-value pairs, but id_number has no colon so it's not a value pair.

Assuming you can figure out how to read that file in to php somehow and define an array, you could use [man]fputcsv[/man] to write the data to a file. This would take care of a lot of details you otherwise might have to worry about yourself like adding quotes, escaping stuff, etc.
