Two array issues (sorting and adding to)

Hi there everyone!

First, off, I am having a problem adding to an array key: I'm trying to use array_push, but it's adding to a new key.

There's two queries, one dependent on a condition of the previous. I create an array from the primary $row and then during the subsequent $row, I'm trying to add to the array, without starting a new primary key. So I would like to add $row_ci2 to $cart_items[0] if that's the key that $row_ci had just populated.

What I'm doing:

array_push($cart_items, $row_ci2);

What I'd like:

I'm not sure of the best answer, as I'm not sure why you have that top-level array index of 0 -- is there a potential for other sub-arrays ([1], [2], etc....)?

What would get you the specified result might be the following, but again, not 100% sure it's what you "really" need:

$cart_items[0] = array_merge($cart_items[0], $row_ci2);

Hi there Nog, and I'm sorry for the ambiguity. The primary array does have the probability of having other sub arrays. I can get any number of results, so I need to dynamically inject the second query's row into the same subarray as the first. Currently, I've only figured out a way to create it as a new sub array.

If you need to do the same sort of thing on each top-level index, I might do a loop on that array, something like:

foreach($cart_items as $ix => $data) {
    // do whatever you do to populate $row_ci2, then
    $cart_items[$ix] = array_merge($data, $row_ci2);
}

I think I'm getting closer, but I am messing something up.

I'd like to create an array that stores $row_ci2, since it can't be used outside the while loop. print_r of $row_ci2 is:

Is there a way for me to store it in an array without placing it in a sub array?

Well, I figured that out by merging $citype_array[0]. I'm sorry for the brain fart.

My next question is can I sort an array by more than one key? For instance, could I sort the above array by "rim_diameter" DESC then "rim_width" DESC, like I can in a query?

You can do it with usort(). The function you use for the second argument would look at diameter first, and if they're the same, then compare the width. Maybe something like:

function mySort($a, $b)
{
    if($a['rim_diameter'] == $b['rim_diameter']) {
        if($a['rim_width'] == $b['rim_width'] ) {
            return 0;
        }
        return ($a['rim_width'] < $b['rim_width']) ? -1 : 1;
    }
    return ($a['rim_diameter'] < $b['rim_diameter']) ? -1 : 1;
} 

usort($the_array, 'mySort');

You can reverse the direction of the sorts by flipping which one is -1 and which is 1 in those ternary expressions.
