[RESOLVED] Regular expression not quite correct

The customer fills in a form with a description.

I then look at the quantity $extrainfo and remove everything except lower case, upper case and digits by using

//Remove any non-numeric characters
$extrainfo = preg_replace('/[^a-zA-Z0-9\.-]/','', $extrainfo);

However, this instruction also rubs out the spaces between words so that - brake pads - appears in the dbt as - brakepads -

Can I modify my instuction so as to keep the spaces ?

you could just add a space before the the last hyphen (or before the back-slash).
