Affordable car/home surveillance package?

My neighborhood has seen a rash of car part thefts. Upstairs neighbor got the catalytic converter stolen off her Prius -- price tag: $2k. My wife got hers stolen about a year ago and it cost her $500. My battery was stolen about 2 years ago and I used the OG tech of a lock & chain to keep the hood from opening when popped. Someone has nevertheless popped the hood twice in the past 3 weeks before encountering the magic chain.

Can anyone suggest an affordable dashcam or vehicle surveillance product? Ideally this product would monitor my car's surroundings and it would be easy to scan/scrub the footage or to go to a particular time very easily.

I'm also wondering about something for my house too. Bonus points for remote accessibility, audio link, offsite video storage, etc.

Affordability is very important. Any suggestions welcome.

I'm not sure what qualifies as affordable for you, but I got a pack from Ring.com with a doorbell and 2 stick up cameras. I have one pointed at my driveway, another at my back door and of course the doorbell, which can see the road. Its got an app so you can monitor from anywhere, it automatically records based on motion sensor, and you can view all those videos later as needed (with a cloud account). Ring system are also responsible for catching 23 package thieves in my county this holiday season.

There are a number of wireless cameras that work outdoors that you can get on Amazon that include infrared. I bought one for less than $50 I used for a while to monitor the cars in my driveway. I set it to take pictures when it noted movement. Many of these will do that as well as send email alerts. I got pictures of someone looking in my car within a few days of when I set it up. Just search Amazon and you'll see a lot of options.

I got a pretty nice one there too. I have yet to hook it up ... I'm waiting on some more parts for the robot shotguns. 😉 😉
