What happened to JS?

When did client side development go from simple expressive statements, to disorganized chaos? I'm working in Angular2 and I feel like I spend half (or more) of my time just writing boilerplate to get things working instead of actually building functionality. When did this happen? I used to have nice clean organized JS and now it feels like everything is all other the place and takes forever just to set up to load the app.

I wish we were hiring ... you could come and write JS however you wanted (pretty much) for pennies on the dollar 😉 :rolleyes: :eek: :o

No idea, I was looking up how to do basic things I'm guessing and it always comes up "oh just use jquery" annoying as hell

Heh I've seen that dale. Its not the libraries and tools - its the amount of boiler plate I need to do anything. Oh you want to take a simple form and post an ajax request? You need to create or edit 10+ files, for every single form. The same ish over and over and over again.

Depending on how you are building your HTML, many server-side frameworks' view systems have ways to put common template code into separate files that can be included as/where needed, in case that would help? But I have zero experience with Angular, so not sure how/where that approach could be applied. 🙁

Yeah, thats part of the problem... its a front end application there is nothing served by the backend. It just makes api calls to the php application. It just seems like such backwards progress that nowadays I write twice as much code for half as much functionality. This is true in my mind using some of the more popular frameworks. I did a thing in Laravel at my last job, I hated it but that was what I had to use. I couldn't get over how many files i had to edit just to have a table in the db that is read and written from, and have that table used by api calls.

Can't find a link to it, but I remember recently reading an article by a guy who was hired specifically for his JavaScript/AngularJS expertise, who, upon reviewing the business needs and the app design, basically turned it into a static site with no Angular and only a little JS, much to the amusement of the manager who brought him in. 🙂 (I'll keep searching.)
