I have been using phppdflib.class.php for some years, however the jpeg standard has changed (EXIF rather than JFIF). So, I would like to get the latest.
Any suggestions?

Isn't it available in PECL?
I think on FreeBSD I just install the port ... maybe I'm thinking of something other than what you're looking for?
