What on earth does this error mean

I'm updating a database and update the word Bronze'

Error is

"Truncated incorrect DOUBLE value: 'Bronze'"

the column is a varchar (150) so ample size.

Whatever you're inserting is not VARCHAR, then, most likely (it may be being coerced to something else ... server may be in strict mode?). The internal RDBMS converts both the column definition and the data you sent to type DOUBLE in order to check for an appropriate value before the insert, and this check is failing. Showing the SQL statement might give us a clue as to exactly why ....

In other words, it's probably not inserting into the column you think it is. 🙂
