I've been trying to set up PHP for the past two days. The problem is, I didn't understand the concept of servers and databases until today. Now that I do, I'm still having a really hard time trying to install Apache, PHP and MySQL successfully. I know HTML, CSS and JS, I was just looking to learn my first server side, but this is very frustrating. It seems like there are no tutorials or step by step guides I could follow, I'm guessing because of lack of support from both PHP and Apache for Windows.
Need help setting up php on local machine.
For Windows, I've used wampserver in the past to good success.
Now I'd probably use a Docker container, but that's got a bit of a learning curve that you might not want to tackle right now.
For Windows and OSX, WAMP and MAMP are probably the best bets for beginners. That said, there is going to be a learning curve to figure out where files are located, how to make configuration changes, how to manage multiple websites, etc. I switched from Windows to Ubuntu on my workstation years ago and it has made things so much easier.
