Not that I really know what's out there these days, but are you coming at this as having programming experience but none in PHP, or just some in PHP 7, or very new to programming in general, or...?

Note meanwhile that PHP 5 reached its end of life over a year ago, now, and the current version is PHP 7; with PHP 8 probably being released by the end of this year. So is your project one that involves upgrading?
