I was attempting to provision a (used) DL380 G8, purchased without disks/OS. USB wouldn't work for anything (e.g. no keyboard, couldn't select USB drive for OS install, etc.)

The machine was plugged into our KVM Switch (Trendnet 8-port), although I was attempting to use a locally connected keyboard (the KVM keyboard didn't work either).

Disconnecting the KVM entirely (using a different monitor, etc.) seemed to allow the USB subsystem to work. OS is now installing.

    My lack of domain knowledge:

    1. Try a different USB cable.
    2. If that doesn't work, power off then power on.
    3. If that doesn't work, go grab an adult beverage and do something else.

A reasonable approach, to be sure, though I don't think anyone uses adult beverages during work hours at this organization. ;-)

A brief search produced the possibility that the KVM was at fault. Figuring our beloved PHPBuilder could still use a lil' Google-love from time to time, I thought I'd share in the "Misc" area... #WhyShouldStackGetAllTheVisits
