how to connect php with Oracle on Apache?

I am getting problems in connecting Oracle8i with Php4 using Apache. I have used ths OCI command i.e.
$connect=OCILogon("scott","tiger",$db); where $db is the database name. Is it necessary to make changes any environment parameters?

check $ORACLE_SID ,
$db should be same as $ORACLE_SID or valid entry in tnsnames.ora (check tnsping )

r u being able to login successfuly using SQL*Plus ???

Are you getting intermittment connection errors in your browser...specifically TNS-12154 cannot resolve service name?

Even I am getting the same problem. I have Win NT 4.0 installed with php3 and Personal Oracle 8.0 Also please let me know what value of $ORACLE_SID variable should have. Currenthly it has the name of my database. Moreover I am able to login thru SQL*Plus without any problem using my defined user name & password. I have also created a databse & its subsequest tables.

Please let me know how do I proceed (the requirements & settings needed)to connect my php3/4 with Personal Oracle8.0

I have the same problem.

With sql*net i can login correctly

ureid, pass, tns

with the same enties and php4 it is impossible to login correctly.

I have also tryed with odbc. I installe oracle odbc, i can login well with microsfot acces, but i can't login, with the same dns with odbc_connect and php.

Any ideas. I am reading all the news an tutorial on the net but j can't solve the proble. I hate working with asp but i fear that if i can't log with php i showld chande languge.
Any suggestion is whelcom.

If you can connect with "sqlplus myusername/mypassword@myservice", then you should be able to connnect with "$conn=OCILogon("myusername", "mypassword", "myservice");". If not, then most likely something is not setup correctly in the environment context that PHP is running in. For example, are the environment variables ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID (TWO_TASK for Linux clients) set correctly in the context that PHP is running in? Check the output of a phpinfo() to verify what those environment variables are set to.
