http post help!

I've been using http_post class, from px code exchange, on three sites with success, but failed on my fourth site. The headers tell me the server is a "Purveyor Encrypt Domestic/v2.1 OpenVMS" and it returns with this error message when I do a post from my script:

%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
\DATA_2\
%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
\PARM2\
%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
\PARM2\

Posting from my browser doens't give me this message so I double checked to make sure I'm sending the same header with the same info yet I'm still getting this problem. Am I missing something obvious?

Any help is appreciated.

From your error message it appears as though there is just an invalid character in (probably) the second data string. Why don't you post a small piece of your code that causes the post.

Thanks david, I tested the data and it is the same data I'm sending using the browser. So that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Here's the code in a function I call to get the results based on the school_id:

$school = new http_post;
$school->set_action($getPostAction[$school_id]);
$school->set_referer($getSourceInfo[$school_id]['directory']);
$school->set_timeout($timeout);
$school->set_element($form_data);
if ($debug) $school->show_post();
$content = $school->send($debug) or die("http_post's send failed!");

for this page the $form_data is equal to array ( "DATA_1" => "$lastname, $firstname", "DATA_2" => "S")

when I run $school->show_post it lists the fields correctly.

Can we as well send a post request as secure connection ? i.e. like using SSL on server from where request is being sent. If so, how do we do this ?

It's in a column written by Matt Allen on here called "HTTPS transactions with PHP" using cURL.

Unfortunately I can't use this because it requires cURL to be installed on my server, and I don't have root access. Any ideas on how to get around that?

Ask the sysadmin if he'd be willing to install it, if I recall I had to compile it against SSL code to get do that.

If he won't do it then I work at a place with it already installed and running and we do hosting 🙂

Chances are the admin will have no problem if the machine already is SSL ready since it's fairly straight forward and probably useful to more than one client at some point.

Whew! Okay after struggling with this for awhile I finally found the "source" of the problem. the http_post class I downloaded has an important part missing on line 221.

Instead of $str.="Content-type: ".$this->_enctype;

it should be: $str.="Content-type: ".$this->_enctype."\r\n";

This small oversight caused all the fuss! I'm still shocked it's worked with the other servers, but I guess the one I found was was picky! Thank goodness it's over it was driving me nuts!
