Serial Interface

Is it possible to
control / read the
Serial or parallel interface of
a Computer (Linux) ?

I think with perl it would
be no problem, but i dont
know much about perl programming

Your hunch is correct. Serial I/O with Perl is simple and straight forward. For Unix platforms using the POSIX module you basically open a device file in the /dev directory (/dev/cua1 for comm port 1) and read and write to it like you would a disk based file. There are several good examples on doing this around the net (sorry I don't have the links handy, but a few minutes with a search engine should yield you fruit).

do it with PHP.
Another question is can I call a
perl script trough php and
transfer data from the perl
script to php ?

Have you tried PHP yet? It does supply an 'fopen()' function that would presumably
let you open e.g. /dev/cua1 if you have permission to.

the permissions are no Problem...

I also needed to get to the serial ports but in php.

Download serproxy from freshmeat.net and use the software to turn your ttys0 (com1) etc into sockets.

Once they are sockets the standard commands in php will work fine.

ex: fputs($fp, "QUIT\r\n");
