Hi Bob, Thanks for your reply and useful comments.
Grab the http-referer env variable
This is possible, except for the fact that each user would have to register with me each and every page on their site (eg index.html, page2.html, etc). If a user changes the name of one of their pages, then they would have to log in and update their listings in order for them to recieve any credits - and i think many people would forget, so they are sending hits to a site for nothing.
Then, on certain pages -- where certain
requests or purchases are made, write back
to the affiliate table, recording a visit,
credited to that referer and the type of
transaction.
Actually, a visit should be written to the
table upon first arriving at the homepage.
I agree with this. It would be easy to track users around the entire site by including a php file in each and every page (which isn't hard, considering that I am about to redesign my site and make it totally dynamic, using databases), and adding the sessionID to all links, as well as cookies.
It would be helpful to be able to access
the db at any time and get realtime stats
on how many people have been referred
An added bonus would be the ability to
vire by day, week, month, or cumulative
total.
This was planned - real time stats for both us (admins) and resellers. I plan to have stats coming out of my ears - in other words, i will have waaay too many stats g. I, as well as my uber-cool partner-in-testing-and-associated-stuff Philip Olson, are both sort of stats freaks (if you ever see him in his shell account, he is tailing the logs and grepping his domains, funny stuff g)
Just my 3 cents worth (adjusted for
inflation).
Good thing you are not here in Australia, it would be 3.3 cents if you added our new, screwed-up Goods and Services Tax. All the good stuff has gone up in price, dammit.
Lol.
Regards,
Ross
