I don't want 404 error in browser

Hi !!
I've been searching but I can't find nothing about it.

I have apache configured so when there is a 404 error the page is build dinamically based on the REQUEST_URI by a PHP script.

All works Ok, and the user can see the right document, but Apache sends a 404 error code and Search engines and other tools can't access to this pages.

Ne1 nows any way to solve this ? I'm trying to send a right header in the script, but it doesn't seems to work or I'm not doing correctly.

You could always redirect on a 404 to the page you have built.

The Custom 404 page:
<? Header("Location: your404script.php"); ?>

The other smart 404 page would then run like any php page, with the correct http response.

Thanks, but if I put
<? Header('Location: error.php'); ?>
in the real 404 error page, it doesn't does make effect.
Let's suposse I have the real 404 page in "/404.php", then, "error.php" is only procesed if i go directly to www.myserver.com/404.php In every other case the sentence does nothing 🙁

Ok, lets try plan b 🙂

The problem is apache is sending "HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found" header no matter if you have an intelligent error page or not.

I believe if you say...
header("Status: 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: error.php");
...it will change that 404 status header and your location header will get processed.
