PHP and Unidata?

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is possible, but it often seems impossibility is seldom an option when it "has to be done". Has anyone know if it is possible to get PHP to work with a Unidata database? Any method of connection would suffice, and any other information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Please do not respond with "It could be done with ODBC" because I realize that and am looking into it. I would prefer success or failure stories, or any information on ODBC drivers for unidata that work in Linux, Solaris, or HP-UX.

Ive tried looking everywhere and can't find an answer.

I also sent in inquiry to Ardent (the co that makes Unidat)

I've noticed the resources are a little thin on this topic also. I know they have an ODBC driver for the Windows variants, but no mention of *nix systems. I did find this little piece of info for connecting with JDBC and also possibly through PERL.
