PHP IP information?

Hello, this is my first time posting here, so I feel a little awkward and such, but here goes.
Im writing a mail communication system wherin which users can send mail thru a web-based system to each person registered as a member within the website. The email message is then encrypted with the selected recipiants PGP key and then mailed to them. What I'm looking to do is get the IP address from the sender and store it in one of the fields on the database, so if there is spam or abuse, we can go back and check the date, and get the IP address. Can anyone help me with any way to get the IP address from the User thru PHP?

Use the the CGI environment variable $REMOTE_ADDR. For example, the sql statement to insert the client ip into a db with only one field (that for the ip) would be:

INSERT INTO table_name VALUES ('$REMOTE_ADDR')

Is there a way to get the computer name or the NETBIOS name along with the IP address? I am trying to set up a database for IP management.

Hi,

There's a problem with the $REMOTE_ADDR as it will return the IP of the proxy if your client is behind a proxy.

Does anyone knows how to get the "real" client IP address ?

I was thinking of using HTTPS but haven't found anything about it.

there is no solution, because the most ip's behind a gateway are like 192.168.0.* so you can't work with them.

Check on php.net there are many reactions on that question, also with proxy servers, and there is definitly a solution, check it out
