is there php script for making a dmoz web search?

I tried out phpOpen because I need to create a search engine that uses live data from the Open Directory. phpOpen seemed to get the data alright, however, the output layout was rather scattered and chaotic. The author claims not to have tested phpOpen on php4. I am guessing that is my problem. Has anyone had success with phpOpen or another script that does the same under php4?
If yes, I would appreciate hearing about it.
