Pagination of Artilces

This question is directed to those who work at PHPBuilder, but anyone with an answer can chip in!

What is the best way to create artilces similar to PHPBuilders that are split into 'pages' with links to the other pages?

Is the article stored in a single field in a database and then split up? Is it stored in a seperate field for each page? Is it stored either of these two ways in a file?

From the sites i have designed the backend for, www.anandtech.com, www.reviewclick.com, and a few others, we usually have an article table with
art_id int auto_increment
art_title varchar(200)
art_intro text

then a pages table with

page_id int auto_increment
art_id int
page text

the you can build your pages by selecting from that page table and you automagically have the pages. Hope this helps.. (very simple explanation can get as complicated as you like)

I guess another question to go along with this (again, for sanity reasons - also for those reading along, too): How do you get the data into the respective fields for each page?

The way it's done here is not that impressive - these are actually flat .php3 files with a massive if statement that breaks up the pages.

It had to be that way unfortunately, because I wanted the fancy code highlighting, which is a pain to do in a database...

Expand your question a bit.. Get data into which fields? the pages? what you do is list the articles out and have an add link, that adds a new page based on the article id into the pages table. Use regular forms (areatext) to type stuff in..

I like your database setup of tables. How do I get my data into those DB tables? An HTML form? How do I make sure it is split even?

The problem then becomes how to make the article flow, as if it was written for that layout...
