PS. One issue I haven't totally figured out, is how to force a refresh of a page, so people don't see an older version... any suggestions?

Looks like I forgot to include error checking for special characters ;(

...is there an easy way to preclude a "\" before any chars that PHP might interpret incorrectly?

to 'force the refreshing' you need to force the page not to be written in the cache of the browser, use the function header("cache: nocache... check in the PHP tutorial.
