I am a final year degree computing student. I am at this point doing research for my final year project and are interested in suitable web languages to product a web front end to a network program that I intend to write. I would like to input on PHPs ability to interact with programs located on the server using sockets. I have looked through the site and have seen the PHP supports sockets but was wondering if PHP would be suitable for producing a front end to server program. It does seem to me that for the majority of cases PHP is used mostly for accessing databases. Can anyone tell me how suitable PHP would be for this. I hope I have explained this well enough for people to understand.
