A buyer just told us that our online form is not working. He received the following error message:

Warning: <?php_track_vars?> is no longer supported - please use the track_vars INI directive instead in /home/nigelr/public_html/download/php-bin/first.php3 on line 1

A programmer set up the sire for us and he is long gone.

Can anyone advise on a solution please.

Turn track_vars on in php.ini

Thanks for the reply. I asked our webhosts to do this and received the following:

As we run linux on our servers there is no php.ini file (this would be
present on a windows server), so this question is impossible to answer!

What now? Anyone?

php.ini or php3.ini should exist in linux, i believe default installation should create them.

whereas for windows, u have to copy the php.ini (at least for 4) to windows directory

It sounds like your web host company had upgraded PHP3 to PHP4 and it has run into a compatibility problem. A simple solutiion is to do as rod k suggested. The fact that your web host responded with this tells me they do not know much about Linux, Windows or PHP.

The php.ini file should (by default) be located in the directory usr/local/lib. If it is not there your hosting company can copy it from the source distribution and edit it accordingly. If they are worth anything they will know what to do.
